Popular video-sharing app TikTok plans to open its first European data centre in Ireland with a price tag of $500 million. The announcement comes on the back of talks with Microsoft about selling its US operations. There has been intense pressure on TikTok’s Chinese parent company from US President Donald Trump over national security risks. The data centre in Ireland will store all of Europe’s user data, and is expected to open in 2022.
