Japanese expert team working to minimise impact of oil spill on Mauritius’ environment

The Japanese disaster relief team helping to clean up a massive oil spill off Mauritius will now focus on minimising the spill’s impact on the island’s environment. With most of the oil at sea collected, the team will begin to clean up mangroves, beaches and wetlands in the area. Japanese bulk carrier MV Wakashio had struck a coral reef on July 25, spilling tonnes of fuel oil in what has been described as Mauritius’ worst ecological disaster.
