Clock ticks down to Sabah election, a litmus test for Malaysian PM Muhyiddin Yassin

Some 1.2 million residents are set to vote in the Sabah state election on Sep 26. The poll is seen as the biggest litmus test for Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and his new Perikatan Nasional coalition, as the results could influence the direction of the federal government going forward. Mr Muhyiddin has said that the outcome could determine whether he will call for a nationwide general election. The police have beefed up security at polling stations. Voters have been reminded to observe physical distancing and wear face masks to curb the spread of COVID-19.
