Protests took place in Pakistan and on the Pakistan-held side of Kashmir on August 5, 2020, to mark one year since India stripped special semi-autonomous status from its own side of the disputed region. During a protest in the Pakistani city of Karachi, dozens were injured after an explosive was tossed into a group of protesters.
On the other side of the Line of Control in Indian-administered Kashmir, streets were silent. New Delhi had ordered a curfew anticipation of protests on the anniversary of what Kashmiris call the “black day”.
